"I wonder what they think right now?"

by Gerdt Larsson, Chairman of the board, 3S

Do you wish you knew a little more about what others think about you and your work? Imagine being told what they are saying and thinking.

Do you have good performance appraisals?

One of the reasons for performance appraisals is not to worry at work. A desire to avoid that feeling and thought - wonder what they think about the way I do my job. Are they happy? Of course an open daily contact between managers and employees helps the avoidance of doubt - it provides security and peace.

When you work as a manager for slightly larger groups, it is impossible to follow everyone on an individual level. One should try to ensure that as many as possible have a good contact with colleagues and their immediate manager.

Personal feedback provides motivation and a greater zeal. To be seen and given attention means a lot to most of us. Both positive and negative feedback is good. Not knowing, to worry, blocks energy and provides lower efficiency and comfort.

How do you work as a manager?

Do you worry about your leadership? Are you a “warrior” or do you tend to be a “Worrior”. Regardless of orientation, we all need to put our ears to the ground and feel the vibrations. In our work at 3S, we create the possibility to take quick snapshots. What do customers want right now? What does the staff think right now? It is the human factor that determines so much of our job. Perhaps it may take away some of the anxiety to simply work a little bit more fact based.

One should perhaps ask a little bit more, perhaps listen a little better? Perhaps I should listen to what she thinks – my dear wife that is. Time to go home in the autumn darkness - for a cup of tea and a quiet chat. I wish you a successful fall at work - with a little less anxiety - a bit more balance.
